Anthony J. Comerota,

Dr. Comerota received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Millikin University, Decatur, IL, and his M.D. degree from Temple University School of Medicine, Philadelphia, PA.  He completed his residency in general surgery at Temple University Hospital and pursued a fellowship in Peripheral Vascular Surgery at Good Samaritan Hospital, Cincinnati, Ohio. 

Dr. Comerota served as Professor of Surgery and Chief of Vascular Surgery at Temple University School of Medicine prior to his current appointment as Director of the Jobst Vascular Center in Toledo, Ohio. He also serves as Program Director of the Jobst Vascular Center-The Toledo Hospital Vascular Surgery Residency Program and is Adjunct Professor of Surgery at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Dr. Comerota is a member of 20 professional societies and has served as president of four major societies. He has been a major contributor to the development of some of the newest forms of treatment for vascular disease and has been the principal investigator of four major national trials, and a co-investigator of numerous others.  Having been involved in both basic and clinical research, Dr. Comerota has received over $6 million in research funding (inclusive of current studies).  Dr. Comerota serves as an examiner for the American Board of Surgery, is a consultant to the FDA, sits on the editorial board of Annals of Vascular Surgery and Vascular and Endovascular Surgery and is a reviewer for 17 other journals, and is a grant reviewer for the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute of the National Institutes of Health.  He has written or edited six textbooks and authored more than 250 publications. His research interests span a broad range of arterial and venous disorders, including the management of acute DVT, therapeutic angiogenesis, noninvasive diagnosis of vascular disease, and the effects of platelet-inhibiting drugs.

Dr. Comerota is a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honorary Society, Honorary Fellow of the Royal Australian College of Surgery, the Japanese Society of Phlebology and the New Jersey Vascular Society.  He has received the Alumni Merit Award from Millikin University and has been named to Who’s Who in America and to Best-Doctors in America.
